Zi in Pee Wee Heaven

After being bitten by the tweelie bug, there was NO way Zi was going to miss out on the Pee Wee Heaven event on our doorstop, at Eteza this weekend...it was a dream come true for him!

There was a great vibe at the track at Van Heerden's Farm, with plenty kids on quads and tweelies, turning out to race their guts out.

These BSI 2-stroke quads seemed to be popular choices, though we did spot a couple of Raptor 80s and Aeon Cobras....

Just take a look at that smile - it sez it ALL....also note the grandstand fashioned out of old tyres, in the background...

Taking to the air at the main tabletop jump was young Calvin Hume, winning the junior 50cc event on his KTM.

The 50cc class is hotly contested, by riders as well as their parents!!!

The starting gates snap down, and they're off!

Racing for the holeshot, it almost appears as though a multiple collision is unavoidable!

but, they somehow squeeze through and the entire 5-lap heat finishes without incident....

Thank MUD it's Friday!

Another Friday, after some midweek rains, and another chance to get down and dirty in Zululand!

Mitch brought some of his family with, to try out the quad experience

After much cajoling, they got onboard and were ALL hooked!

Some action shots of Dino Dad, for a change...

Warthog, in his element, trying to catch the photographer with a spray of mud

DD, showing Sivashni the controls on the Trailblazer - she also had a blast, and will be back, I'm sure!

miniTweelieMania !!!

Zi had been pestering me to get him a little tweelie (2-wheeler) for an age....this morning he had a chance to ride a demo at Honda, which was nearly his dream come true!!!

Sulli, giving some basic instructions, and helping to keep Zi stable on the first time round..

THAT didn't take long...! Zi was up and running like a pro...now to find those brakes!!!!

Just LOOK at that form!!!

And, speaking of FORM - look who just HAD to try it out -what FUN!

Even Adam had to get on - I rode a few laps with him on my lap, and he thoroughly enjoyed it too!!!

Warthog and Roxy ride the Raptor Hole - 20 October

On Saturday the 20th October 2007 @ 07h00, Roxy and I (Warthog) met at Louis' house to go on an outride to visit some of the wonders of Zululand logged on Louis' GPS.

First stop was at “Black Sludge” dam near the beach. The sludge is dry on some places and we're not sure how deep it goes. Would not suggest you try and walk on the mud as you will sink.

Victory!

We have been looking for this so-called “dome” or “raptor hole” for some time and, just as luck would have it, we stumbled into it. The sides of the dome are maybe 15-20m high and great to test your skill and nerves. Let’s just say that this little hole made me scared and hence you see Roxy showing off her victory and not me (I like the mud holes). Louis was also braver than I was, and thoroughly enjoyed ripping up the whole zone.

Next we were off to the charcoal factory , yes our very own in Richards Bay, not sure what the production is like or who they supply but at least it keeps some of the locals employed and housed.

Then we were off to the site which got Roxy going and I may just try to assist in her wishes, we found this old Lutheran church which still is in operation and has regular services. Roxy’s wish is that the church gets painted and maybe a new door- so if we are welcoming any and all ideas ; please post them, as I think it would be great to give this church a “face lift”.
(Please don’t ride near the church on Sundays as they have services)

We found a spot that is perfect for the family to picnic etc.. Lovely views of the beach etc…

Yes, it's true : we went overboard and left more than our foot prints on the sand.

Yes, you are correct: we have found the memorial stone from the plane that crashed into the sea many moons ago, if anybody has more info please post it. (try using the comments feature)

Not sure if you can read this ???

Oops! End of the road!

It looks like we missed the turn to the beach and ended up on a dune to the mining area ...!

We turned ourselves around and got outta Dodge!

Next, we met some other quad riders who showed us a new route to Long Beach, the same spot I visited last about 10 years ago.

After a quick juice-break, we were off to the next spot which is called “Pump House” - I'm not sure why it has this name, as it is in the sticks.

Another quick break under the ESKOM pylons, after which we made our way back to our favorite spot behind the Richards Bay airport.

HOME SWEET HOME
